Religious education: ‘Gifts from God’ - this unit involves understanding the story of Creation and its relevance to us today. We will also be looking at ways in which key individuals protect the world which God created for us and how we can follow their example.
Science: ‘Animals including humans’ - this unit looks at changes in the human body over time.
Computing: ‘We are game developers’ - the children will be looking at how interactive games are created in order to produce their own.
Art: ‘Object and meaning’ - throughout this unit the children will be developing their observational skills and using various colour mixing techniques to produce artwork with personal meaning.
PE/games: ‘Netball’ - the children will be working on their passing, throwing and receiving skills through a variety of small team activities.
PE/gymnastics: the children will develop rolling skills and will look at how to create sequences of movements.
History: ‘The Anglo-Saxons’ - during this unit the children will learn about who the Anglo-Saxons were and how and why they came. The children will also consider how historians know about the Anglo-Saxon period and they will have opportunities to use artefacts to draw their own conclusions about the past.
Music: ‘Rock’ – the children will be looking at 80s music and cover versions, and will work towards analysing performances.
Religious Education: ‘The Commandments’ - the children will learn about the story of Moses and will examine the Ten Commandments, considering why they are important to us.
Science: ‘Earth and Space’ - throughout this unit the children will look at the movement of the Earth and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system. They will use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the Sun across the sky.
Computing: ‘We are cryptographers’ - the children will be looking at how ICT can be used to crack codes.
Design and Technology: ‘Making biscuits’ - for this topic the children will explore existing biscuit products in order to develop their own ideas for designing and producing a biscuit.
Geography: ‘sustainable tourism’ – in this unit the children will learn about tourism and sustainability across the world.
PE/Dance: the children will explore different dance styles individually and within groups.
PE/games: ‘target games’ – through a series of target games, the children will develop their understanding of attack and defence.
Music: ‘Five Gold Rings’ – this is the children’s Christmas unit.
Religious Education: ‘Inspirational People’ - in this unit the children will identify various inspirational people throughout history, focusing on the lives of particular saints.
Science: ‘Forces’ - the children will learn about different forces and will be able to explain how gravity acts upon falling objects; the effects of air resistance; the effects of water resistance; and how friction acts between moving surfaces.
Computing: ‘We are artists’ - during this topic the children will use ICT to fuse geometry and art.
Design and Technology: ‘Musical Instruments’ - in this unit the children will have opportunities to explore different instruments. They will develop ideas for designing and making their own musical instrument.
PE/Gymnastics: the children will look at jumping, landing and finishing and will be able to create sequences which show good body tone and control.
PE/games: ‘Rugby’ – developing and performing skills of rugby with accuracy, confidence and control.
History: ‘The Maya’- in this topic the children will locate the Maya civilisation on a map and timeline, and they will investigate the social order and justice system of the Maya. The children will also learn about Maya homes and cities.
Music: ‘Classroom Jazz’ – in this unit the children will look at the history of music and will study Jazz in its historical context.
Religious Education: ‘Reconciliation’ - during this unit the children will examine ‘sin’ and will develop understanding of the sacrament of Reconciliation.
Science: ‘Forces (2)’ - this topic will continue from the previous term and will enable children to develop their understanding of how mechanisms allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
Computing: ‘We are web developers’ - this topic will develop the children’s understanding of how websites are produced. They will use this knowledge to create a website about cyber safety.
PE/games: ‘hockey’ - the children will develop their accuracy, confidence and control through a series of activities and hockey themed games.
PE/dance: ‘response to stimuli’ - Creating and performing a group dance in response to different music types.
Art: ‘Containers’ - this unit allows children to investigate and explore different containers in order to develop their own ideas to design and make a clay pot.
Geography: ‘the water cycle’ – in this topic the children will learn about the water cycle.
Music: ‘Benjamin Britten’ – during this topic the children will study Western classical music, Blues, and traditional Jazz.
Religious Education: ‘Life in the Risen Lord’ - in this unit the children will be reflecting on Christ’s presence among us and they will be experiencing different ways of praying.
Science: ‘Properties and changes of materials’ - the children will be comparing and grouping together everyday materials on the basis of their properties. The children will learn that some materials can dissolve in liquid to form solutions and they will be able to describe how to recover substances from solutions.
Computing: ‘We are bloggers’ - during this topic the children will be learning about blogging, and they will be able to use this knowledge to share their own experiences and opinions using a blog.
Art: ‘Talking textiles’ - in this unit the children will be working together to create collaborative textile pieces.
PE/games: ‘Outdoor and Adventurous Activities’ - throughout this unit the children will be working in groups to face a range of challenges.
PE/gymnastics: ‘Sequences’ - Creating sequences on the large apparatus, changing direction and body movements.
History: ‘A local history study’ - the children will be looking at our local area during this unit and how it has changed over time.
Music: ‘Stop!’ – the children will look at Grime, Classical Bhangra, Tango and Latin Fusion.
Religious Education: ‘People of different faiths’ - for this topic the children will be comparing Christianity with other faiths. They will also learn about different celebrations.
Science: ‘Living things and their habitats’ - in this unit the children will be describing the differences in the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, insects and birds. Additionally, they will look at the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals.
Computing: ‘We are architects’ - during this unit the children will be exploring virtual spaces in order to design and create their own.
Design and Technology: ‘Moving toys’ - in this unit the children will look at how moving toys are produced, and they will use their knowledge of different mechanisms to make their own.
PE/games: ‘Athletics’ - the children will be developing a range of athletic skills using the track and field.
PE/Dance: ‘Movement’ - Changing type and direction of movement using rolling, jumping and different body shapes
Geography: ‘Investigating our local area’ - for this topic the children will be encouraged to ask their own questions within a theme, while looking at a variety of resources and data which are open to interpretation.
Music: ‘Reflect, Rewind and Replay’ – in this topic the children will study Western Classical music.
