Y5 Moving Animal CAM Mechanisms

Year 5 spent the day creating their Moving Animal cam mechanisms. After spending the first part of the day building the cam mechanism, the children then went on to create their animals in their habitats. After completing, two special guests popped in to take a look at their finished creations - which were all absolutely outstanding!

As May is the month of Mary, today we held a liturgy to celebrate and took part in the Crowning of Our Lady. Children from each class did readings and placed flowers around our statue of Mary while children from Year 3 crowned Our Lady. Father Michael joined us for this wonderful celebration and the singing from all the children was amazing.

Year 5 studied The Flood, an illustrated book by Alvaro F. Villa. They then wrote a Haiku and a sonnet to describe the weather, abandoning their home to face the oncoming flood.

Year 5 went on a trip to the Museum of Kent Life to take part in an Anglo Saxon Themed Day. As part of our Time Travel Topic this term, they got to step back in time and learn more about the Anglo Saxon way of life.

Year 5 Anglo Saxon Musical Instruments

Continuing our Anglo Saxon theme, we created a musical instrument - a Lyre! Carefully decorated with gold, Year 5 could entertain at any of King Hrothgar's feasts!

Year 5 have created brooches based on Anglo Saxon designs. Using gold fimo clay, they added intricate detail, including stones used in original brooches.

Our choir performed with about 7000 children and various artists during a performance at the 02. The children spent the afternoon rehearsing and had a wonderful time.

Our talented artists in Year 5 have created illuminated letters in the style of the Anglo Saxons and Beowulf. Year 5 drew their designs before painting in watercolours. Finally, they added gold and outline. They have each created their own, unique masterpiece - well done!

17 of the children from our school choir were chosen to sing for the Beam Charity at Sainsbury's. The children sang beautifully with one lady saying they reduced her to tears.

St Joseph's Choir at Bluewater on Wednesday 6th December from 3-4pm. The children sang beautifully. Many shoppers stood and listened. Thank you to all the parents for supporting at this special event.

On Saturday 2nd December, the Christmas Fayre took place. It was very well attended and there was lots to do , plenty to eat and many prizes were won. Father Christmas was in his grotto and promised to deliver lots of presents on Christmas morning.

Year R joined in with the rest of the school with painting their own individual stones to lay in the river of our communal garden. Every child painted a stone to show their individuality. The children could then see that when we all come together we create something beautiful.

Year 3 were given a group of reasoning problems which they had to answer with Always, Sometimes and Never. They then gave an example to support their answer.

On Friday 10th November, Year 6 delivered an assembly to the whole school explaining the significance of Remembrance Day. It was a very thoughtful, reflective assembly with a 2 minute silence.

We have studied Mexican Folk Art this term. Looking at the celebrations for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), we designed and created our very own Mexican Skulls.
Harvest Festivals Around The World Assembly 2017

Children presented an assembly to the school about how different countries celebrate harvest. We learnt about countries including United States of America, Germany and India.

We have learnt lots about Mexico this term! In English we wrote instructions on how to make the popular Mexican food - Fajitas. Following on from this, Year 5 put on their aprons and followed their recipe, preparing and cooking chicken, peppers and onions before finally enjoying the finished Fajitas!

On Monday our new Reception class enjoyed their first school dinner shared with their parents.

Two teams of children had the challenge to create a tasty, healthy meal from fresh ingredients. The red team created salmon fishcakes on a bed of spinach and pasta with onion and pepper chutney. The green team created coronation chicken with rice and bombay potatoes. Both teams cooked delicious and tasty meals - and healthy too!

As the country went to the polls in the General Election, the children in Year 5 held an election of their own. They formed parties, choosing names, and discussed policies to include in their manifestos. They presented their manifestos to the whole school and then everybody - staff included - cast their votes in a ballot box. The votes were counted and the winning party was announced. Well done to the Strong Smiggles (Smiles and Giggles) Party!

We learned about the digestive system by simulating what happens inside our bodies when we eat and drink. We crushed different foods and mixed them with orange juice and water. After that, we squeezed the mixture through the leg of a pair of tights. It was messy and smelly but fun.

Year 1 went to Horton Kirby on 18th March. We looked at different plants and flowers. We even had a paddle in the river.

On Book Dress Up Day, children attended different themed activities. Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop Challenge required children to get an egg to survive a 3 metre drop without cracking. It was very egg-citing!

On 28th April, Year 5 were invited to Northfleet Technology College for basketball practice. The children learned new skills and improved those they already had.

Darren from 'Roots to Food' came to the school to show children from Year 5 how to cook a healthy meal - oriental honey and orange meatballs served with vegetable noodle chow mein and sweet and sour sauce. It was great fun, very informative and the end product was delicious!
