Religious Education
Intent
At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School we aim to nurture the Catholic Faith and its teachings in our children with Christ at the centre of all learning and life. The curriculum aims to help children come to know and love God through Jesus Christ, deepening their understanding of the Catholic faith and encouraging a personal relationship with Christ. It seeks to foster religious literacy, spiritual growth, moral development, and respect for other faiths, preparing pupils to live as compassionate and active members of a diverse society.
Implementation
Religious Education is taught as a core subject, with a minimum of 10% of curriculum time dedicated to it. At St Joseph’s the Religious Education Directory is currently being implemented in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and the school are using the recently approved scheme ‘Lightning the Path.’
Across Key Stage 2 the school uses the approved scheme The Way, the Truth and the Life until full implementation of ‘Lighting the Path’ in September 2026.
Impact
Pupils leave primary school with a deep understanding of Catholic beliefs, values, and practices. They demonstrate spiritual awareness, moral integrity, and a commitment to living out Gospel values in their daily lives. Through rigorous teaching and reflective practice, children become religiously literate, able to articulate their faith and engage respectfully with other beliefs. The impact of Religious Education is evident not only pupil outcomes but in the school’s ethos, pupil behaviour, and the quality of relationships within the community, all rooted in the love and teachings of Christ.
